Quantum Monte Carlo

Check out this wiki article on quantum monte carlo with lots of collection of open source codes and benchmark problems. Thanks to the link through the blog by Quantum Montecarlo whose contents itself make a good reading.

Inhaling helium

I came across this expert answer in scientific american on effect of inhaling helium on the voice, where it goes on to give some fundae on sound wave travel in a medium. But why the hell would somebody inhale helium? The article ends with the following

listen closely next time and you will notice that a voice doesn'’t become squeaky but instead sounds more like Donald Duck.
I thought first time itself would be an accident. Why would somebody try it the next time. (The emphasis is my addition).

Put your PC to good use!

Life hacker has some suggestions on putting your computer to use for some noble cause. You can dedicate your computer during its idle time as a part of some distributed project like searching for cure for Cancer, Aids or search for extra terrestrial intelligence .

While at it, also check out this article on privacy while browsing and searching and how to protect from those snoops.

Improving the blog looks

It is just to remind myself of where to go when I (will surely one day) change to improved beta blogger, for help. Thanks to Abi for the link to Banana stew.

Physics of coarsening

Check out this website of Dr. Lewis of RPI where he poses a problem about coarsening of bubbles. It is counterintuitive to the normal thinking. Cool problem. It would be nice to have a discussion as to the origination of the critical radius for bifurcation and whether this happens in the real physical world (unlike the simulation shown).

Check out my other avatar!

I decided after careful contemplation (over years: see the date of my last blog) that I am henceforth using this blog for technical ramblings as opposed to random rambles in this not so new Avatar in wordpress.com.

An effective blessing!

I read this somewhere in the net. Funny and packs a punch!

An Old Gaelic Blessing:)

May those who love us, love us
And those that don't love us,
May God turn their hearts:
And if he doesn't turn their Hearts
May he turn their ankles
So we'll know them by their limping.

First shot at creativity

Though I can claim myself as a netizen, my contribution to the internet world had been a passive one with plenty of browsing hours to my credit and couple of feedbacks to some websites (which I don't think they even bothered to take a look). My route to blogsmanship (Can it be called so?) is an article by the famous writer Sujatha in tamizh magazine Ananda Vikatan about blogs. Thus, this stab at exploring my creative side.

From the blogs I sampled to see what could be qualified as a blog, there appears to be no such restriction. So why not I list all those thoughts crisscrossing thoughts in my mind.
